I waited to review this product because I wanted to try it with several different foods.  So far I have tried it with steaks, pork chops, boneless chicken breasts, and Panini’s.  All of which came out great.  I did notice that with the meats, you need to season lightly because if the heat is too high, the seasoning will get dark or burn.  The steaks came out with beautifully seared grill marks, and they stay very juicy. This panini maker is worth every cubic inch it occupies.  Very simple to pull out and plug in, and also easy to clean. Perfect sandwiches every time, with much less fat required than pan-grilling.  And you never miss it!  Sandwiches are crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside.

The grill plates really are nonstick.  They are extremely manageable and only need to be wiped clean, even when drippings seem to have burned on. The plates remove super easily, and also snap back in simply.  The grill pre-heats very quickly…..start making the sandwich and it’s always hot enough by the time the sandwich is assembled.

The grill always creates the perfectly grilled panini.  Previously making grilled sandwiches in a frying pan, getting them perfectly grilled without burning was hit or miss.  With this grill, the dial should be set a bit shy of medium and every sandwich comes out perfectly grilled. 

The hinged lid allows for fairly huge sandwiches (a few inches thick).  While huge sandwiches are not common, it’s key to having fun with the grill, since this panini maker allows you to make creative sandwiches you could never cook all the way through or flip in a frying pan.

The small size is perfect as it cooks one very large or two smaller panini and doesn’t take up a ton of counter space.  The smaller size allows the appliance to be left out all the time, which makes it a lot more convenient to use.

The Breville is 1500w, which is about as powerful as you’re going to get for a panini press.  Anything too low, like a George Foreman grill (which ranges from 700-11100 watts), and your sandwich will not cook evenly or quickly.

The second thing the Breville has is floating hinge, which means the hinge is not static and rises and lowers in height so that it adjusts for whatever size sandwich you’re cooking.

The unit is very heavy and well made, and the handle is strong.  The grilling of the sandwich takes about 4-5 minutes and produces wonderful grill marks and the contents inside are very hot.
